How to Add or Remove Canadian Tax manually
To compute tax or reverse-engineer pre-tax figures manually:
- Adding Ontario HST (13%): Multiply the net amount by 1.13 (e.g., $100.00 * 1.13 = $113.00 total).
- Removing Ontario HST (13%): Divide the gross amount by 1.13 (e.g., $113.00 / 1.13 = $100.00 net). The tax portion is the difference ($13.00).
- Adding Federal GST (5%): Multiply the net amount by 1.05.
- Removing Federal GST (5%): Divide the gross amount by 1.05.
